Welcome to the Johnston Lab
Research in the lab focuses on the ecology, genetics and evolution of reproduction. We mostly study plants, but we also use yeast to study adaptation, mutation and the evolution of sex and recombination. Our approaches are varied and include work in the field, the greenhouse and the lab (e.g., yeast culture, DNA sequencing, UV mutagenesis, molecular markers, image analysis, electron and confocal microscopy, etc., etc.) as well as theoretical modeling.
Graduate and postdoctoral training emphasizes the concepts of evolutionary ecology and evolutionary genetics as well as the statistical analysis of data.
For current topics of interest, please visit the pages listed to the left.
Some of our work has been featured on journal covers
